Amateur Harvey Chandler Beats World No. 20 Mark King

Harvey Chandler September 2016
Harvey Chandler

Harvey Chandler has been putting in the time on the practice table these past couple of months or so and he has been duly rewarded for his efforts. In April he reached the final of the a WEBSF Gold Waistcoat Tour event; he followed this by recording a maximum, on the match table, whilst waiting for his next match in a tournament at Leicester; he then won a Pro-am in Dunstable; followed by a semi final exit in a London tournament, from 3-1 down he made a 106 to go 3-3 only to lose the decider to professional Alan Taylor and more recently he reached the final of another Pro-am tournament in Clacton on Sea, beating World no. 20 Mark King 4-2 in the semi finals.

These results are an indication that Harvey has the raw talent and with hard work and a positive mind-set he has the ability to elevate himself to higher levels. Harvey’s final tournament of the season will be the WEBSF Gold Waistcoat Masters, due to be played on 17th June in The Galaxy Centre, Torquay. He has to be in with a good chance and is certainly one to watch out for next season.

Harvey Bounces Back with a 147

Harvey Chandler September 2016Harvey Chandler was in pretty good form this Saturday when he reach the final of WEBSF Gold Waistcoat event 5 at Top Q, Gloucester. However, Andy Symons (Tavistock) went one better by taking the deciding frame after Harvey missing a difficult brown. This was sweet revenge for Andy having lost to Harvey in a decider in the final of event 4 at the 147 Club, Swindon a month ago…..more about this later in the week as today Harvey made a 147 break on the match table whilst waiting for his next match at a tournament at Breakers, Leicester. Harvey lost in the quarters, probably due to being on a high after the 147, as is often the case.

The break was witnessed by many people including Ben Woolastons mum who was running the event, Harvey got got a richley deserved round of applause. Furthermore, Harvey is the second person to hit a 147 on that table behind 5 times world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, who hit a 147 in a exhibition at the club just over a year ago.

Harvey is sponsored by Colin Mitchell, Rushden Windmill Snooker and Dunstable Snooker Club

Sunday Independent – Media Release

Sunday Independent

Media Release / April 18th 2017

One of Britain’s most historic newspapers is saved

The Sunday Independent – famous and award-winning for its in-depth comprehensive coverage of the sporting scene from Bristol to Penzance – will be back on West Country news stands this Sunday, April 23.

Well-known West Country businessman Peter Masters has stepped in to take over the 200-year-old title.

The newspaper closed two weeks ago not long after the sudden death of its previous owner, Brian Doel, cast a shadow over plans for the future.

But the news prompted an outcry on social media from people who said the title was a ‘Bible’ for sports fans. It’s the current England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Regional Newspaper of the Year.

And now Peter has provided the backing to rescue the paper.

Peter, who is chairman and co-owner of National League club Truro City, said: ‘Like so many of our family of readers, I’ve read the Indy every Sunday all my life.

‘There was no way I could stand aside and let such a loved and respected part of the West Country sporting scene pass into history.’

Peter was born in Somerset and has extensive business interests across the region. Truro City is working with Truro and Penwith College and the Cornish Pirates on plans for a Stadium for Cornwall.

He said: ‘We have lots of plans for the Indy moving forward but our driving motivation is what it has always been – to back sport in the West Country from grass roots to the top level with unrivalled in-depth quality coverage.’

The news saves 17 jobs at the paper’s Liskeard, Cornwall, headquarters.

The paper’s new managing director, writer and photojournalist Colin Bradbury, said: ‘Our first and most important task will be to get the Indy that people love, complete with our existing team of writers and contributors, back in the shops this Sunday, April 23.’

The paper will be back on sale with a 20p price rise to £1.20.

Colin said: ‘We hope that given the challenges the paper has faced in recent weeks, people will understand the need for this small price rise – the first for nearly a decade – to keep the title alive.’

Editor John Collings, who has worked for the Indy since 1988, said: ‘We have been simply overwhelmed by the messages of love and affection for the paper and we thank everybody for their support.

‘This great news gives us a solid platform to continue and make the Indy even better.’

Since before the launch in 2004, the WEBSF have received a great deal of support from the Sunday Independent. The WEBSF Management Team wish to thank the ‘sports desk’, especially John Collings, for the regular coverage that, more often than not, was published as submitted. John was also instrumental in securing Sunday Independent sponsorship of the Gold Waistcoat Snooker Tour.

Thank you John and the Indy.
