‘The Blade’

With superb performances from Haydon Pinhey in wining the Gold Tour and ton machine Eddie Manning winning the last event to finish one frame off the pace to take the tour runner-up spot. The player of the month for May 2016 was looking like one of these two, both for the second time. However, up stepped life member and WEBSF Ambassador Sam Baird to make the decision easy. Sam’s run in the World Professional Championship ended just two frames off the pace in the last 16 against Mark Selby, arguably the best matchplay player in the modern game. Sam has risen from 73 in the rankings at the beginning of the season to  59, provisionally 46 for next season, a fantastic achievement and a far cry from the days when he competed in the WEBSF Silver and Gold Waistcoat tours, potting balls for fun.

Sam is currently without a main sponsor, hopefully this won’t be for long now that the world has seen his potential, whilst playing exciting and entertaining snooker. Surely he is destined to continue climbing the rankings and edge into the elite top 16 over the forthcoming seasons. An introduction to sponsoring Sam can be seen here.
