An evening with Sam Baird

Playe Profile Sam BairdColyton Memorial Social Club is hosting a snooker evening where players will be invited to take on local professional Sam Baird. This is to celebrate the re-opening of the newly refurbished snooker room in the club. A couple of club members gave many hours of their time, for free, to carry out the work and the results are a vast improvement.

There will be a raffle on the night for snooker related prizes, at least one of them will given the opportunity to play Sam. Tickets will be on sale shortly, available to club members and non-club members alike. For more information select Exhibition Poster.

Mitchell Grinsted pipped other contenders Haydon Pinhey, Rob Johns and reigning champion Andy Neck to win the prestigious title of WEBSF Overall Gold Waistcoat Tour Champion 2014. All four players have shown commitment and consistency throughout the season and are all worthy of their ranking above some of the best players in the region. The final event, in a series of six, was won by Scottish International Eden Sharav who beat Kurtis Weaver in the final of the main event. The Plate was won by Andy Neck who beat Darran Lock. PINHEY, PINHEY, PINHEY
Haydon Pinhey is cruising towards another Silver Waistcoat title after a third consecutive event victory. Dan Legassick and Thomas Lancastle are close behind but need to dig a bit deeper in order to reel in Mr Pinhey. With three events to go only time will tell. I have mistakenly reported that Pinhey held the record for the most amount of prize money won in a season with £670 in fact Andy Neck holds this record with £750 last season. However, with Pinhey on £655 this season, and we’ve only reached the halfway point in the tournament calendar, who will bet against him setting a new record? Thanks to the The Plaza, Plymouth who once again provided excellent facilities and sponsored the event.

CURRENT GOLD WAISTCOAT CHAMPION RACKS UP MAXIMUM BREAK No 14
For the past two seasons Andy Neck has proved that he is the most consistent player on the WEBSF Gold Waistcoat Tour and is deserving of consecutive Gold Waistcoat Tour Champion titles. In event one he lost in the semi’s which, although not obvious, this clearly hurt. Like all quality players he took the defeat on the chin and went back to the practice table more determined that before to make amends. Event two is not until January 4th but he has put down a marker by way of maximum break No.14……Beware the Neckmiester is hungry!

GRINSTED STOPS THE PINHEY ROUT
Haydon Pinhey looked like he was cruising for a third tournament victory in less than two months until Mitchell Grinsted stopped him just short in the final of the first WEBSF Gold Waistcoat event of the season. Click here for a report and more details.
