Dan Legassick MIUS Under 18 Champion 2015

SNOOKER STAR OF THE FUTURE

West of England Billiard & Snooker Foundation (WEBSF) snooker star Dan Legassick (Plymouth) took on some of the best youth snooker players from England & Wales to win the South West Snooker Academy Under 18’s Snooker Series. The event took place at the South West Snooker Academy, Gloucester. This prestigious event attracts stars of the future from far afield eager to play on the top quality tables at this superb snooker venue and was sponsored by M.J.H. Paving Ltd.

Legassick played to an excellent standard throughout the tournament, dropping just three frames in total. In the last 32 Legassick brushed aside Umar Mansuri, winning three frames to nil. This win meant Legassick’s next opponent would be Hamim Hussain from the West Midlands, a young player with great potential. He is the current English Under 14 Snooker Champion. Legassick was very pleased to have won this match 3-1 and progress into the quarter-finals. Here he was pitched against an in-form Welsh international,  Jackson Page. Page topped the under 14 & 16 Welsh rankings. Good safety play won Legassick the first two frames before two quick-fire visits in the last frame that saw him run out a 3-0 winner. In the semi-finals Legassick played arguably the tournament favourite Louis Heathcote, an ace Pool & Snooker player from Leicester. Heathcote recently reached the European under 21s final only to lose in the final frame. Legassick played solid all-round snooker to win 3-1 and book himself a place in the final against another Welsh international Tyler Rees. Legassick didn’t put a foot wrong in the first frame and won it in just a couple of visits. Rees won frame two comfortably but Legassick took the next on the colours to go 2-1 up. In what turned out to be the final frame, Rees needed a snooker on the brown, this he got but failed to then pot the brown. This left Legassick the opportunity to clear-up which he duly did to win 3-1. Along with the trophy Legassick picked up £500 in prize money. Spokesman for the WEBSF said “Dan’s achievement is all the more impressive given the top quality field and the nature with which he won all his matches. Plymouth is blessed with talented young snooker players and Dan is one of the very best.” Anyone interested in sponsoring Dan can contact the WEBSF by email websf_uk@yahoo.co.uk or by phone on 07891940995”
