SAM BAIRD CLOSE TO CHINA
Sam Baird continues with his steady progress in this his first year as a Professional. In the China Open qualifiers he progressed to within one match from qualifying for the main tournament in China. After beating Craig Steadman 5-3 in the first round he went on to beat Liu Song 5-2 in the second. In the third round he moved up a gear to beat Ian McCulloch 5-1. He started well in his final match against Fergal O’Brien until he missed a sitter to go 3-1 up from which he failed to recover and went on to lose 5-2.
