Bronze Waistcoat – 11 Seasons on

Bronze Waistcoat Finals Day Overall Winner 2003-04
Joel Martin – Bronze Waistcoat Finals Day Overall Winner 2003-04

It all started back in 2003 with Joel Martin wining the first West of England Billiards & Snooker Foundation Bronze Waistcoat Finals Day.

This event is now a single Open Championship tournament run at the end of the season. Initially players had to qualify from one of the town tours (Exeter, Plymouth, Falmouth or Redruth). Four players from each tour played in the Main event whilst the rest played in the Plate event.  They were great events with all the young hopefuls dress to look the part. Every player went away with a prize after a full days snooker.

Plymouth International Channel Island Challenge Winners - Pontins 2007

I was transferring some web content from our ‘old’ site to this new site when I came across this picture. Grant Cole, Darren Bond and Matt Williams who, guided by their astute Captain Wayne Branton, proved worthy winners of this international team event back in 2007. With the help of Jim Curtain, then one of Riley’s top managers, the WEBSF Management Team pulled off what turned out to be a resounding success.

The WEBSF have been kicking around the idea of another team event and the thinking is that the 16th & 17th May 2015 is the likely date. The format, venue & conditions need to be thought through over the next couple of weeks. Keep an eye on our facebook site for more details. In the meantime to take a look back at the 2007 event…..Click here

More recently this tour has wavered a bit but the intention is to run one or two events again this season. Thanks again in no small part to Wayne and the other members of the Management Team who give up their valuable time to make this possible.
